No, but thank you! It was a real lifesaver, actually. I got it because I was traveling on a ship (the Scholar Ship, an intercultural, ocean-going vessel) for four months. We changed our internet service provider in Portugal before we were to set sail across the Atlantic. We launched and our new provider gave us the wrong coordinates to "plug in," so to speak. All of our communications links were down. Without the satellite phone, there would've been no easy way for us to get in contact with the right people to fix our link. Whoo-hoo! Hello Mike, We were in Baja Dec.14-15 taking care of paperwork from an accident that took place during the Baja 1000. We rented your phone, just in case we had another emergency. Thank God we did! We ended up hitting a cow, which was in the middle of the road, just south of Punta Prieta. Your satellite phone enabled us to contact our family in the US, and authorities in Baja. Our race team used the iridum phones to keep track of our race progress all the way down the baja Peninsula. The iridium phone system worked better than radios we tried to use in the past! The area is the frank church wilderness area, salmon national forest, cahallis national forest, and the bighorn crags. We had a sort of “dry run” of our disaster plan this week due to Hurricane Humberto. One of the lessons learned was that Evans Operating does not have a satellite phone to use to communicate with Seneca operations personnel if traditional cellular or land telephone service is damaged. In that regard we are respectfully requesting that Evans Operating secure a satellite phone. Seneca utilizes the Iridium network because the Globalstar network may become unreliable in the near future. We secured our phones through All Road Communications. I talked to your representative yesterday and explained that my daughter was on a semester abroad in madagascar for four months. Before she left, i made sure that she had the sat phone and a medical program in case she got sick. When i called All Road Communications, i talked to your rep and explained that i needed a phone that would in the remote part of madagascar, and it did. My daughter had been on a canoe trip when she was 16, and was windbound on an idland in the arctic ocean with a sat phone that didnt work. My daughter used the phone once a week to check in with us, when she didnt have internet access. But the most important use of the phone was when she bitten by a scorpian. Local medical practice was to put on a tournquet, cut the bit area, crush the scoripian and put the scorpain juice on the wound. My daugher was able to contact a mdical team with her phone, get immediate advice, and after a conference call with an american doctor and french doctor, she was air ambulanced out of madagascar to a french hospital in Reunion. Your sat phone and the SOS international medical insurance were both invaluable in her emergency. Thanks for giving us a phone that worked! Thank you Thomas D

Mike- Just wanted to let you know your phone saved our butts after 2 days of torrential rain on the Dean River. Two other frightened rafting groups also used our phone to coordinate their helicopter rescue.The river came up over 10 ft in less than 36hrs and when the rafters upstream arrived telling us stories of giant landslides we knew it was time to bail out. We may have been able to wade/swim off the backside of our "new" island but we would have lost thousands of dollars in gear, and there would have been no place within miles that a helicopter could land safely. Dear Allroad Communications: I was asked to give a testimonial regarding how important the Iridium satellite telephone I rented was to our pack trip – it saved a life. Always the careful one, and for the second year in a row, I rented the sat phone from Allroad Communications knowing that my family and their friends would be taking horses and mules into the back country of California’s Carson Iceberg Wilderness. Once in this country, the only way out is on foot or on horseback UNLESS some cautious person was smart enough to rent a sat phone from Allroad Communications to assure other options of travel would be available if needed. Despite a lot of good natured teasing from the teenagers in the group, I made sure the sat phone was tucked into one of the saddle bags. Three days into the trip, a woman in the group began to feel quite sick. She got to the point that she couldn’t ride her horse and then got to the point she couldn’t walk due to terrible abdominal pain. The group stopped and camped hoping she would start to feel better. However, as evening came on her pain intensified and she got increasingly more ill. It didn’t take long for the fear that she had appendicitis rather than just a touch of the flu to hit everyone. The decision was then made to use the sat phone to call for help. Using the sat phone, an emergency call was made and within an hour it was being used to guide the helicopter and paramedics to the campsite. Our friend was whisked into the helicopter and taken to the hospital where she had an emergency appendectomy that night. I hate to think what would have happened if there had been no sat phone. No one should ever go into the back country without a satellite phone. Thanks to Allroad Communications and its simple and reasonable satellite phone rental program, one of my best friends is alive today. Needless to say, the teenagers in the group are now believers and future satellite phone renters.

All Road Communications I am a government civilian, and although I have never been ordered to deploy, I wanted to go to Iraq. Obviously, my wife was concerned about my safety, and she would only let me go if I promised to call her every day. Thanks to the Iridium Phone, which I rented for you, I was able to keep my promise despite the uncertainties of war, technology, and commanders that would shut down cell phones, MWR connections, and DSN lines. Additionally, I was able to call my brother in Latin America whenever I wanted and did not have to wait in long lines at the calling Center. My wife and three of her friends were out on the sand dunes here in florence, oregon. they got stuck in sand in her H1 hummer. she's been to hummer school-provided by AM General, so she knows how to get unstuck, but just couldn't this time. i had told her before she left, to take the sat. phone with, in the event she got into a situation where she would need help. she ended up calling a tow truck to help get unstuck, using the sat. phone since cell phone reception on the dunes is non-existent. we have gotten some really good usage out of the phone-i am really glad i got it, so please keep up the e-mails. i should be needing something pretty soon. thanks again, sonny crooks

Sue, I just wanted to let you know that I just returned from a 7 day fishing trip (11/4 to 11/11) where we fished at a location approximately 450 miles south of San Diego and another 70 to 80 miles offshore of Mexico (Baja). The reception of the phone was loud and clear at all times. There was no static, no dropped calls, no shadows etc. just the sound of my family’s voice on the other end of the receiver. The ability to make and receive calls was explained by the friendly staff and using the phone was simple. On a fishing boat there is always a constant loud noise from the sound of the engines, and the volume of my calls were so steady that I never had to make any adjustments to the phone…just kept getting a loud and clear signal the entire length of my calls. I also retrieved a few messages from my business line at work, and like many message machines it requires me to hit certain keys to access my voicemail. Lo and behold the system recognized every button I pushed and never had to repeat any access codes to pick up my messages. I also noticed that another fisherman was using the Globalstar phone, and he complained to me that he was getting a lot of dropped calls and that his reception was “spotty”. He said he wished he had a phone like the Iridium to use. Thanks again for making the Iridium phone available to me for my fishing trip. Now that I know how easy it is to use, I will be renting it more often ( I’m addicted to offshore fishing). Gary Iwamura

Hey Mike I highly recommend All Road Communication for your satellite phone communication needs. I used their phone services on a recent 200 mile off shore trip to Guadalupe Island to photograph sharks. Their customer service was outstanding. Mike, Pursuant to our telephone conversation this morning, I want to reconfirm that the Iridium phone I rented from you worked nearly flawlessly and was a lifesaver. I say nearly flawlessly only because I used it from inside a motorhome in spite of your instructions to use it outside for best reception. I rented it to have as a backup to my cell phone while relocating my motorhome from Anchorage, Alaska to Klamath Falls, Oregon. This trip took me over the Alaska Highway through Western Canada (Yukon and British Columbia) then down through Washington State and all the way to Southern Oregon. Approximately 30 miles north of Whitehorse, Yukon, I experienced a tire blowout. My cell phone had no coverage and I was literally in the middle of nowhere with almost no traffic. Using the satellite phone, I was able to call the GoodSam Emergency Road Service (I'm a member) located in Boston, Mass. They quickly located the nearest towing company who came out and replaced the tire on site. That one incident more than paid for the phone rental. Further, as you can see by my useage, I used it several times over the course of the trip when I did not have cell coverage - this included a part of Washington State. I thought we had my daughter's trip to Japan all ready to go. My back-up plans even had back-up plans. The day before departure, I contacted the cell phone company to activate the international chip we had installed for my daughter's trip.
